The Implanon (also known as the 'bar') is a small rod that is placed under the skin and releases the hormone progestogen into the blood stream. This hormone prevents ovulation and thickens the mucus in the cervix preventing sperm from entering the uterus. It is 99.9% effective and lasts up to 3 years.

The Implanon insertions and removals are a 30 minute appointment. If you are a new patient to our practice, please book an initial consultation with a doctor to discuss if the Implanon is right for you.
